ABOUT

Graphic Design, like other artistic trades, is an intertwining of communication and art. Like a true craftsman, Matt Smith has mastered his tools. Amongst his mediums includes print, illustration, and web design. As the sole graphic designer of Balboa Mfg., a globally recognized motorcycle accessory manufacturer his duties and responsibilties are great. In this position Smith has created artwork for apparel, web, print, and catalogs. As graphic designer of the nationally circulated Cigar Snob Magazine Smith takes on the design and layout of half of each bi-monthly issue as well as illustrations for the articles.

Driven by the same passion of the craftsman guilds of old, I strive to relentlessly pursue the perfection of the symbol. Each tool in the Merge Visual logo has a specific meaning.

Compass

The compass is an homage to the Freemasons and their ancient fraternity that produced some of antiquites' finest structures.
As a modern artisan, it is my responsibility to provide the client with the same level of passion for my craft.

Ruler

The ruler is a symbol of quantifiable perfection and the old adage "measure twice - cut once." Each element of design, typeface, composition, and craftsmanship is painstakingly considered and refined until the final product meets the paradigmatic state that any peice of art should reach.

Pen

The pen is a representation of art's final stage. The commitment of an idea from concept to tangibility. Ink embodies the decisiveness and finality needed to move a project forward and accomplish the original goal agreed upon by the designer and client. Indecisiveness can only lead to frustration and delayed realization of the goal.

Time is of the essence, do not waste it.
